At Electronic Design Company (EDC), our mission is dedicated to consulting, designing, implementing, and supporting critical communication systems while delivering uncommon client experiences. One of our latest Mission Critical projects was with Xcel Energy in Monticello, MN.
To update an aging recording solution in a critical simulation training lab at the Monticello Nuclear PowerPlant. The existing system had limited control functionality for operators, and no audio.
1. The EDC team consulted with the system owners and users to uncover existing system pain points and important user features.
2. EDC Engineering developed a budgetary solution.
3. Prior to installation, the entire project team including sales, design, PM, programming, and field technician met with the Xcel Energy team on-site to confirm that the design is as dictated and all client needs are met, additionally setting room schedules to confirm that there are no surprise site conditions or concerns, and ensure the installation goes smoothly.
4. The implementation team installed, commissioned, and trained Xcel Energy staff on their new state-of-the-art system which includes five PTZ cameras and programmed ceiling microphones and control system.
The new simulation lab allows operators to provide improved camera recording capabilities critical to teaching. The controller provides multiple camera views and simplifies operation. The system was installed on time, on budget, and the client was provided with a complete system training, and as-built drawing package.
